President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Cup in Manila

 Two consecutive international tournaments in Manila organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines shall usher in the new ASEAN Grand Prix and Masters Circuit. In photo are FIDE Honorary President Florencio Campomanes and representatives of the four countries in the Grand Prix, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore. The $40,000 Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Cup, FIDE President`s awardee for Tournament of the Year 2006, scheduled 21-29 November 2007 shall be followed immediately by the $30,000 3rd Prospero Pichay, Jr. Cup International Chess Championship scheduled 1-7 December 2007, both in Manila.

1.         Official Recognition by UAE Government

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces has welcomed the move of the seat of the Asian Chess Federation to Al Ain, UAE. This has opened the door for support for the Asian Chess Federation as shown by the organization in grand style of the Asian Youth Championship in Al Ain.

 The 78th FIDE Congress (Executive Board) is being held between November 11-16 in Antalya, Turkey. The members reviewed the developments of the chess world since the last Olympiad in Turin and examined the work of the FIDE Commissions and offices.

Bright future for Asian chess

sian chess is on the top of the world at the moment, but the future looks even brighter, according to the president of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.
"The ACF is proud with seven world titles and the highest men's ranking now," Shaikh Sultan said.
