On appointment by Sheikh Sultan, Asian Chess Federation Executive Board Member D. V. Sundar of India visited Srilanka from 5th to 7th October to inspect the facilities available for the smooth conduct of the Asian School Chess Championship to be held at Kandy, Srilanka from 03 to 10th January, 2008. He was attended to by Mr. Lakshman Wijesuriya the FIDE Delegate of Srilanka who will also be the organizing Secretary of the Championship. Here is the report of D. V. Sundar. |

Back to Back $70,000 Opens in Manila Usher in ASEAN Grand Prix |

Two consecutive international tournaments in Manila organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines shall usher in the new ASEAN Grand Prix and Masters Circuit. In photo are FIDE Honorary President Florencio Campomanes and representatives of the four countries in the Grand Prix, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore. The $40,000 Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Open scheduled 21-29 November 2007 shall be followed immediately by the $30,000 3rd Prospero Pichay, Jr. Cup International Chess Championship scheduled 1-7 December 2007, both in Manila. |

The Asian Junior & Girls U-20 Chess Championships 2007 will be held in Mumbai, India from 12 (Arrival) to 22 (Departure) December 2007. The East Coast Chess Academy in association with the Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will organize the Asian Team Chess Championship 2007 from 2 (Arriva) to 11 (Departure) January 2008 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, South India. The All India Chess Federation on behalf of FIDE and Asian Chess Federation cordially invites all Asian Federations to participate in the event. Anand's victoryy is a 'big boost for the game in Asia' |

w e are really happy, says Sheikh Sultan Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of the Asian Chess Federataion (ACF), lauded the victory of Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand at the World Championship in Mexico City earlier this week. "The vicotry of Anand is a big boost for the game in Asia. We are really happy and pleased with his achievement." Sheikh Sultan said. GM Anand, the higest ranked chess player in the world, was the only undefeated in the championship. |
